Witchborn
A horror movie/comic pitch
• In 17th Century England, Marion, a heavily pregnant woman, is accused of witchcraft, dragged from her house and murdered without trial.
• The details of Marion’s murder are referenced in her character design. In the story she is disturbed in her kitchen whilst cooking something in her cauldron by an angry mob brandishing torches. The final panel in this sequence is meant to suggest that although her physical body has perished she may have transformed into a different form of energy.
• As she was burned to death in the past it was appropriate that she should materialise in the present out of the coalescing of smoke. As in life she was the accused, her vengeful spirit would ‘point the finger’ at the object of her wrath.
• When her father died as a teen, Aubrey started to take comfort in believing in ghosts and the afterlife. She’s intrigued when she first hears about Marion, but intrigue soon changes the course of Aubrey’s life when Marion and Aubreys identities start to merge
• In the present day Aubrey, an expectant mother running from a toxic relationship and derailed career, moves into the house and awakens a dangerous spirit bent on revenge.
• Strange Cravings. Aubrey begins to wander around in the nighttime dressed as a White Lady
